New Aldi stores expected in SA and WA

German supermarket giant Aldi has announced it will build 14 stores in Western Australia in 2017, as well as another 10 in South Australia.

Last year Australia’s third wheel in the supermarket landscape opened 19 outlets in the western state.

Aldi said this week that the next store opening would be in Morley, followed by Cockburn, Lakelands, South Fremantle, Spearwood, Banksia Grove and Secret Harbour.

And an announcement today revealed that the first new store of the year in South Australia would be opened in Hawthorn, followed in the second half of 2017 by Aldinga, Nuriootpa, Kensington Park, Port Pirie, Adelaide Airport and Victor Harbor.

It is understood that last year Aldi also acquired new sites for development in Bunbury and Currambine in WA.

Last year Aldi opened 18 stores in South Australia, employing 400 people and serving approximately 4 million South Australian customers.

A spokesperson for Aldi said South Australians had embraced the Aldi shopping experience, thanks to the chain’s focus on convenience, high quality products, and low prices.

“Our South Australian customers value locally grown produce and brands available at ALDI, from suppliers such as Fruchocs and Spring Gully,” she said.

“There has also been a great deal of excitement and enthusiasm for ALDI’s Weekly Special Buys, especially our Christmas range.”

“We look forward to helping even more people discover the benefits ALDI can bring to their wallets and lifestyles in 2017.”

In the long term, Aldi expects to have more than 50 stores in South Australia, and 70 stores in Western Australia, employing up to 2100 permanent positions between the two states.

For the past three years Aldi has won Canstar’s Most Satisfied Customers category, and was also named Australia’s Retailer of the Year in 2016.

  1. When is Aldi coming to Mount Gambier South Australia, if coming what is the expected time of Opening? been waiting years and years .. *sigh*

  2. There is a perfect site for an Aldi store on Midway at Hillbank SA. The site is already for lease or sale and has an existing post office and small run down Foodworks. There is no nearby Aldi store and it is crying out for one. Already has parking area and is opposite a RSL building. Busses pass the door. Give it some thought!
