7-Eleven celebrated its 40th birthday with two major awards for its team members at the 2017 Australian Association of Convenience Stores (AACS) Awards Dinner recently.

On the same day that the first 7-Eleven store was opened 40 years ago in Oakleigh, Melbourne, 7-Eleven team members won the prestigious Store Operator of the Year and Woman of the Year Awards.

Alyssa Milton, 7-Eleven Insights Manager, won the Woman of the Year award and Joanne Hodgson, Corporate Store Manager 7-Eleven Hoppers Crossing, won the Store Operator of the Year award in the AACS Women in Convenience Awards section.

7-Eleven’s store in Harristown, Queensland, led by Franchisees Rav Sahu and Rahul Bhardwaj, was recognised as one of three finalists in the AACS Store of the Year category.

Theresa Zhou of 7-Eleven Port Melbourne and Janet Mao of 7-Eleven South Oakleigh were recognised as finalists in the Store Operator of the Year category. Priscilla Longo, HR Business Partner, was recognised as a finalist in the Rising Star category.

According to 7-Eleven CEO, Angus McKay, these awards recognise the outstanding talent across 7-Eleven’s support office, corporate and franchised store network, dedicated to delivering a consistently high quality and great value in-store experience to customers.

“I’m really proud of our team. Alyssa, Joanne, and all of our finalists, not only do their jobs to the highest standards but also live the 7-Eleven values in all they do every day. Their success and recognition is very well deserved,” Mr McKay said.

He said the work by AACS to celebrate the significant contribution of women to the convenience industry was incredibly important.

“To make our business, and indeed the industry as a whole, the best it can be, it is crucial that we attract and retain a diverse range of talented people. I’d like to thank AACS for the chance for 7-Eleven to nominate and celebrate some of the outstanding women who are an integral part of the ongoing success of our business,” he said.

Mr McKay said the overall calibre of the winners and nominees on the night demonstrated the depth of talent in the convenience industry in Australia.

“We want every experience a convenience customer has to be a great one, with exceptional in-store standards, great value and service, and an offer that is continually evolving to give consumers more reasons to choose to shop in our channel.”

“I’d like to congratulate all of the nominees and winners on their achievements

and well-deserved recognition. Each of the nominees and winners showcase the dedication these fantastic people show to their roles, their businesses, and the industry as a whole.”
