Two years ago, Pulse Plus and C&I conducted the largest ever survey of the entire Australian impulse and traditional route channel; more than 1,200 respondents representing over 2,000 small to medium retail stores completed the survey.
The 2015 survey aims to establish:
- Have levels of service by suppliers to the Impulse Channel improved in the last two years?
- Which company’s service levels are underperforming?
- How has the Impulse Channel performed compared with the rest of retail?
- Has the trend towards supermarket buying got better or worse?
The 2013 results were startling; the level of service to smaller stores was so poor that smaller retailers were being driven into the arms of the major supermarkets, where they were found to be sourcing 15% of all stock purchased for resale.
Of the around 43,000 stores in the broader convenience channel, over 37,000 stores (generally referred to as the ‘Impulse Channel’) were missing out and only around 6,000 branded petrol stations and convenience stores (‘Organised P&C’) were receiving adequate representation from sales reps.
The 2013 survey found that supply leakage through supermarkets is equivalent to 60% of the total wholesale value of the Organised P&C channel.
Now it’s time collectively to find out if things have changed. The 2015 questionnaire that will enable small business owners, retail managers and Impulse channel retailers of all kinds of corner stores, newsagents, take away food outlets and independent stores to communicate their needs and concerns to the major suppliers and manufacturers.
The survey can be completed anonymously, but retailers who put down contact details, could win one of five of the very latest iPad Air 64gb wireless.
