Telco provider Vodafone has announced that prepaid customers now have an extra week to use their data and call credit, extending the expiry duration from four to five weeks from date of purchase.
Customers on the ‘$40 and above’ combos will benefit from the new five-week validity period, starting May 10.
In a press release, Vodafone said this was an exciting time and a game changer for the prepaid channel.
“This will cause a massive disruption to the market, with a focus on giving customers more value and keeping things as simple as possible,” it said.
Customers who switch to the $40 combo will receive double data on top of the extra week to use it.
The new offer will also reduce the need for frequent top-ups, equating to 10 per year, with the equivalent of three months free service and a discount of 20 per cent.
Vodafone has also launched a new core product range including Talk Combo, Data Combo, Prepaid 365 and Prepaid Mobile Broadband, each with its own unique features and inclusions.
As the only Telco service offering a 35-day expiry period, Vodafone said any prepaid customer who switches to a Vodafone $40 + combo will save money and get more inclusions.
“Most customers recharge $30 or less per month, so whilst having 35-day expiry means less recharges per year, it incentivises existing customers to increase from $30 to $40 recharges (increasing their yearly spend from $390 to $400),” the company said.
“We want stores to think $40 not $30. That’s only $1 extra every recharge for loads more inclusions.
“Stores may also increase their prepaid customer base by switching customers from post-paid to prepaid.”
A spokesperson for Vodafone said this was just the beginning of exciting things to come.
“Our goal is to build momentum in the channel and make sure that we have the best offers in the market which put our customers first: A true point of difference,” he said.
