According to global consulting firm AlixPartners, a survey the conducted found that C-stores should increase their food-service market.
The survey found that food-service was the number one driver for consumer purchases in C-stores, equalling 27per cent of survey responses.
This was followed by packaged beverages at 17per cent and tobacco at 13per cent.
AlixPartners said in order for C-stores to maintain growth rates, they need to incorporate healthier meal options into their supply.
45.6per cent of respondents said “better for you” options were important to them.
Other findings from the study include the following:
- Consumers most important factors in chosing a C-store to purchase from include location (21per cent), price (18per cent) and food quality (14per cent).
- Customers appreciate mobile loyalty programs, self check-outs and mobile coupons.
- Drive-through windows, in-store dining areas and delivery were ranked as important innovations.
