Airbnb in Japan has partnered with Family Mart, one of Japan’s biggest convenience store chains.
Airbnb hosts are now able to leave their keys in lock boxes within Family Mart stores, for pick-up by guests.
Guests can check into their accommodation by confirming their information using a tablet, allowing the lockbox to open and releasing the keys. Guests can also return their keys the same way.
Family Mart aims to roll out the service across 150 stores by February 2019 according to cnet.com.
Airbnb has also teamed up with Lawson, another chain of C-stores to provide the same service at its outlets.
7-Eleven is reportedly also getting on board with the idea, with travel agency JTB.
