AACS CEO explains why alcohol should be sold in convenience stores

The argument for selling alcohol through convenience stores continued this week with Australasian Association of Convenience Stores (AACS) CEO Jeff Rogut outlining the key reasons why this issue should remain on the agenda.

AACS CEO Jeff RogutIn an exclusive interview with C&I, Rogut explained, “AACS remains committed to working with governments to secure the opportunity for convenience retailers to be able to sell alcohol if they choose to do so, subject to trading laws, hours etc. in their local areas.”

Rogut said convenience stores should not be unfairly discriminated against.

“We have a solid track record for being responsible retailers for age-restricted products such a tobacco or lottery,” he argued.

Internationally, convenience stores already serve the needs of consumers with alcohol as part of their offering in many countries, including the United States.

“Convenience stores around the world do sell alcohol responsibly and do satisfy their customers’ needs for convenience,” said Rogut.
