Danone has been recognised for the second consecutive year as a world environment leader by the international non-profit organisation CDP.
CDP’s disclosure and scoring system is lauded as the gold standard of corporate environmental transparency. And out of more than 5,800 companies scored in 2020, Danone is one of only 10 companies that achieved a place on the A List for three environmental areas of climate change, forests preservation and water security.
Henri Bruxelles, Chief Operating Officer End-to-End Design-to-Delivery, said that making the prestigious A List for the second year was a great recognition of Danone’s ambitious and longstanding actions to build a low carbon economy, protect natural resources and increase brand transparency.
“This is an important milestone and achievement that confirms how our ‘One Planet. One Health’ frame of action and our strategy to focus on grounded and local impact have turned into a deep transformation agenda,” he said.
Major steps have been taken by Danone to live up to its ‘One Planet. One Health’ strategy, including evian and Volvic becoming carbon neutral from the source to the consumer, the US organic milk leader Horizon Organic set the ambition to become carbon positive in five years, and Karicare also embarked in a neutrality journey.
Danone also launched the ‘We Act for Water’ movement, a set of urgent actions to foster the protection and access to water resources. And it created the first ever segregated palm oil supply chain in the US as part as its commitment to eliminating deforestation.
“I would like to thank all our teams for their dedication and passion in transforming our value chain, inventing a low carbon economy and protecting natural resources. Transparency is crucial to reinforce consumers’ trust in our brands and to provide the financial community with the right tools to assess the resilience and impact of our business models,” said Bruxelles.
Paul Simpson, CEO of CDP, congratulated all of the companies that made this year’s A List.
“The scale of the risk to businesses from climate change, deforestation and water insecurity is enormous, and we know the opportunities of action far outweigh the risks of inaction.
“Leadership from the private sector will create an ‘ambition loop’ for greater government action and ensure that global ambitions for a net zero sustainable economy become a reality.
“Our A List celebrates those companies who are preparing themselves to excel in the economy of the future by taking action today.”
It is very cool that such huge and strong companies do not forget to care about our environment. I hope that in the future many more people will think about ecology. Sometimes it is very sad to watch how companies, earning a lot, do not even want to think about saving natural resources, or at least think about packaging their product, about whether it will be further processed or rotted for 100 years. Thanks for the article, it was very interesting to read it!
