The Board of the Australasian Association of Convenience Stores (AACS) has unanimously voted to change its name, effective immediately.
Moving forward, the Association will be known as the Australian Association of Convenience Stores in a move that AACS CEO Theo Foukkare says will bring its focus back to being 100 per cent the voice of the Australian convenience channel.
When AACS was initially founded 31 years ago, it also represented the needs of the New Zealand convenience channel. But with the New Zealand Association of Convenience Stores (NZACS) now firmly established, Foukkare said it was time for the AACS name to be changed.
“The Association represents interests of all businesses within the Australian convenience store channel,” Foukkare told C&I.
“Over the course of our 31-year journey, the team in Australia for many years was also responsible for doing this in the New Zealand market, hence we have been known as the Australasian Association of Convenience Stores. NZACS has now been representing the New Zealand convenience retail market for many years and is very well established.
“As part of my review of the Association where I am making a number of changes, the Board has supported my decision to complete the name change to be 100 focussed on Australia.
“So welcome to the Australian Association of Convenience Stores, the future is bright for us and for all of our members.”
