Reimagined to appeal to die-hard fans and a new generation, Peters Originals latest offering is the Twin Pole Blue Raspberry Spider, a fresh take on the iconic Smurfee, popular back in the 80s.
This latest addition to the Twin Pole range from Peters is heavily inspired by the original two-toned ice treat, probably best known for staining lips and tongues blue.
“Smurfee was such an iconic ice-cream and has a special place in our history alongside Twin Pole,” says Eileen Whitta, Marketing Manager at Peters Ice Cream.
“We’re so excited to share the reimagined version that lovers of the original Smurfee, as well as the younger generation, can enjoy and share.”
Not without a loyal following, self-described Smurfee superfan Neil Hancock campaigned for almost a decade to bring back the dual textured treat, and while the original smurfberry flavour has been updated, much of the retro charm remains.
Designed with two paddles instead on one, the Smurfee was intended to be shared between friends with ease, something Author Bob Byrne remembers well.
“I have fond memories of enjoying a Smurfee with a friend on a hot summers day in the 80s,” he says. “It was one of my favourite treats of all time, a memory that I look forward to recreating with the Twin Pole.”
With that heady mix of childhood nostalgia and sweet confectionary, the Twin Pole Blue Raspberry Spider is set to inspire a whole new generation of fans.
Available in all convenience store major supermarkets from September.
