The AACS Peter Jowett Convenience and Retail Award and AACS Store of the Year registrations are now open.
The Peter Jowett Award is open to all AACS Retailer and Supplier members under the age of 36 and provides a unique opportunity for future leaders within the AACS Retailer and Supplier membership to challenge others in Australia on thinking about the opportunities for our industry.
Theo Foukkare, CEO of AACS, said Peter Jowett was a passionate industry innovator with decades of retailing experience who was one of the industry’s strongest advocates, and like many other industry leaders, Jowett always promoted the unique youthful talent and ideas to look to the future.
“I had the pleasure of spending time with Peter at previous AACS trips and events when I was starting out in the industry. He was genuine, approachable, friendly, and an all-round great person. I know Peter would be very proud that his legacy continues to live on.”
Last year saw a record number of entries from retail and supplier members, and Foukkare hopes that it will be even greater in 2023.
“The PJ Award process is designed to identify future leaders, challenge their thinking, and showcase their talent to the industry. I personally can’t wait to read all the submissions and work with the judging panel to select the finalists.”
The topic for 2023 is:
The year is 2027 and the metaverse is now intertwined into everyday life. Consumer shopping behaviours have shifted and the challenge to capture consumer spend and loyalty is more competitive than ever.
As a leading Convenience and Mobility Retailer or Supplier, how does your metaverse strategy fit into your overall consumer and marketing plans?
Also open are entries to the AACS Store of the Year competition, which Foukkare says is designed to showcase convenience retail innovation, store format, advancements in technology, training, and amazing customer experiences.
“All AACS Retail Members that have a refurbished, remodelled, or new to industry store are eligible to submit an entry. This includes all stores within the UCB, New Sunrise, and BP Buying Groups.
“I know that during my travels in 2022, a lot of investment has been made into refreshed formats, food innovation, barista coffee, technology, and customer experiences. There has been a lot of development in the independent space as well as the corporate retailers, so I am excited to see all the submissions this year.”
