The WA EV Network has launched its first charger in Broome, with construction commencing on further charging stations.
Delivered by Horizon Power and Synergy, the State Government’s WA EV Network will include 98 charging stations across 49 locations connecting Perth and regional WA as part of the Government’s $43.5 million investment into EV infrastructure.
Tony Buti, Acting Climate Minister, said the WA EV Network is critical to boosting electric vehicle uptake in WA and will help support the transition towards net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
“The Cook Government is committed to preparing the State for the rapid uptake of EVs, creating a more sustainable future and making clean transportation more accessible to communities across WA.”
The recently launched Broome EV charger is located at Town Beach carpark and will allow drivers to top up their electric vehicles in as little as 20 minutes.
The next EV charger will open in Carnarvon next month, while construction has started in Exmouth, Denham, Derby, and Karratha.
Bill Johnston, WA Energy Minister, said he is delighted Horizon Power’s first charger in the EV Network is now operational in Broome.
“Broome’s fast charger is an important step to drive the uptake of electric vehicles in WA and ensuring EV drivers can explore our wonderful State without any range anxiety.”
The project will provide infrastructure for EV owners to travel easily around the state, with the average distance between stations around 200 km. It will also be the longest in Australia, stretching 7000 km from Kununurra in the north, to Esperance in the south and east to Eucla.
