Sara Lee has been sold to an Australian family after entering voluntary administration last year, securing the jobs of nearly 200 people.
Sara Lee’s administrators at FTI Consulting announced the sale of the iconic Australian company to Klark and Brooke Quinn, who were involved in the purchase and subsequent turnaround of Darrell Lea in 2012.
“We are a small Aussie family that shared in the tradition of having Sara Lee Apple Pie and Vanilla Ice-cream every Sunday night at the dinner table and could not be more proud to put the Aussie made and owned stamp on the Sara Lee brand,” said the Quinns in a statement.
Vaughan Strawbridge, Administrator at FTI Consulting, said they have enjoyed working with the Sara Lee team and are pleased to see them come through this process.
“Sara Lee is an iconic brand and category leader. Staff and consumers have rallied behind the business during this tough time, and we are so grateful to the loyal workforce and management team who have made this process a success while they have continued to produce amazing products.”
Established in Lisarow NSW in 1971, the Australian Sara Lee business has a long history of producing desserts including frozen cheesecakes, pies, crumbles, and ice cream, using quality, authentic ingredients.
The company trades as Sara Lee under license from the global owner of the trademark, with rights to operate in Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.
Strawbridge said they hope to have the sale completed in the coming weeks.
