Petrol stations across New Zealand are facing outages at self-service pumps due to a ‘leap-year glitch’.
Gull, Z, Allied Petroleum, and others are facing technical difficulties nationwide as motorists attempt to fill their car. The glitch is apparently affecting unmanned site terminals at all fuel brands, so motorists can still pay by other methods.
Julien Leys, spokesperson for Gull New Zealand, said they are aware of a nationwide technical issue that is affecting motorists across all fuel brands where they cannot pay for their fuel at some of the payment terminals.
“We are working closely with the technology provider to resolve this issue as quickly as possible for our customers.
“We understand the frustration our customers are feeling, and we will have a Gull Discount Day next week to make up for the inconvenience.”
John Scott, CEO of Invenco Group, confirmed to the NZ Herald that there had been a ‘leap-year glitch’ and that they have now fixed it.
“We just need to roll it out to the network now, which is our immediate focus. I know the question is timing; it’s as soon as possible. Expect this afternoon.”
Allied Petroleum confirmed the outage via social media, stating that its fuel stop network is currently offline.
“Our team is busy working with our suppliers to fix the issue we will provide further updates as soon as we can.”
