Woolworths launches Scan&Go trolley in Australian first

Woolworths has launched Australia’s first digital supermarket trolley, allowing customers to scan and bag items and track their spend as they shop.

Currently being trialled at Woolworths Windsor in Sydney, customers can unlock a tablet style device using their Everyday Rewards card, attach it to their trolley, and track their spend in real time as they shop.

Faye Ilhan, from Woolworths Group, said Scan&Go Trolley is a market-leading innovation that will help customers both save time and balance their budget on their supermarket shop.

“Pending feedback from our customers, we hope to introduce Scan&Go Trolley in more of our supermarkets nationwide, along with some additional features in the coming months, including the ability to pay for their groceries on the device.”

Scan&Go Trolley, which was developed in-house by Woolworths Group digital teams in close collaboration with supermarket operations, is set to be rolled out to an additional nine Sydney supermarkets over the coming weeks.

Those supermarkets are Kellyville, Oran Park, Kellyville Grove, Kellyville North, Lane Cove, The Ponds, Warringah Mall, Schofields Town Centre, and North Parramatta.

The original Scan&Go app was first introduced in 2018 and allows customers to scan goods with their smartphone as they walk through the store and pay in the app before tapping off at a dedicated kiosk. Scan&Go is currently live in over 74 Woolworths supermarkets.
