As the trend towards vegan, flexitarian and vegetarian gains global traction, one of the world’s most popular drinks has taken notice.
Milo, beloved the world over, has just released a plant-based version of the cocoa malt powder in Australia.
Keeping the same main ingredients of malt, barley and cocoa, it will replace the milk powder with soy and oats.
And as an added bonus, it also contains less sugar than the original version.
Head of Nestlé’s dairy business Trevor Clayton said it follows other recent international plant-based releases, including a ready to drink version of Ninho Forti in Brazli and a Nesquik GoodNes in the US, both made from oat and pea protein.
“People are looking to vary their diets with more plant-based options, including to lower their environmental footprint and for health reasons. We already have some great plant-based products and are now adding one of our biggest global brands with Milo. We’re continuing to make good on our promise to offer consumers food that is right for them and right for the planet.”
It’s estimated that around 400-500,000 Australians follow a vegan lifestyle.
