The Australian Association of Convenience Stores (AACS) has named the winners of this year’s Peter Jowett Awards at a Gala Dinner held at the Hyatt Regency, Sydney.
Keirice Farley from 7-Eleven was the winner of the Retailer Award and Olivia Mercer from Frucor Suntory Oceania was the winner of the Supplier Award. Each will receive a ticket to attend the AACS 2024 International Study Tour, valued at $20,000.
This year’s topic was: “Envisioning the future: How will AI revolutionise convenience retailers to enhance customer convenience and operational efficiency?”
Mercer, who is currently an NSW Field Manager at Suntory Beverage and Food Oceania, said being recognised as one of the Peter Jowett Award winners was such a positive experience and an incredible journey.
“I’ve been in the industry now for four and a half years, and the learning journey you went on was invaluable. Receiving this recognition was unexpected, especially after seeing the calibre of talent that takes part in the award process.”
Mercer emphasised the importance of the awards and said she has made some incredible connections within the industry.
“It also really challenged my thinking about the future of the industry, to develop my presentation and then showcase it in multiple forums in front of different leaders across the industry has really been a once in a lifetime opportunity that I’m very grateful to have had.”
The other finalists were Lorena Bucella from BP, Michelle Leung from Viva Energy, Alfred Hu from Mars Wrigley, and Kevin Nguyen from BAT.
Participants were asked to submit a written paper of no more than 4000 words or a PowerPoint presentation of 10 slides, along with a one-page biography. The six finalists then showcased their presentations to industry leaders, who decided the eventual winners.
Theo Foukkare, CEO of AACS, said the Peter Jowett Convenience Retail Award is held in the highest regard by the industry as an avenue to showcase future leaders who apply their innovative and creative thinking to each year’s topic.
“Peter Jowett was an industry champion who led the way in uncovering young future leaders within the industry. His passion and commitment in this area ultimately led to the development of this prestigious award many years ago, and each year that passes on reminds us of his legacy.”
