Bundaberg Brewed Drinks unveils low-sugar range

Bundaberg Brewed Drinks has launched a new low-sugar soft drink range, ‘Refreshingly Light’, with each drink containing only 20 calories per can.

The launch follows Prime Minister Albanese’s recent call for Australians to support local products. During his visit, part of the government’s Support Australia campaign, he highlighted the importance of choosing Australian-made beverages over imported alternatives.

John McLean, CEO of Bundaberg Brewed Drinks, said the new range was an extension of the company’s long-standing craft brewing tradition.

“It is difficult to compete against the global soft drink companies, but we give them a run for their money by focusing on what we do best – craft brewing, using real ingredients and bottling in glass.

The ‘Refreshingly Light’ range, available in Australia and New Zealand, includes three flavours -Brewed Raspberry & Pomegranate, Brewed Lemon & Watermelon, and Brewed Apple & Lychee. Each drink contains only 20 calories per can and no artificial sweeteners, colours, or flavours.

McLean welcomed government efforts to promote Australian-made products but maintained that quality remains the brand’s priority.

“I’m not interested in pushing a political agenda, but one thing I can say for certain is that nothing tastes better than a Bundaberg Ginger Beer.”

The Prime Minister’s visit included a tour of the company’s original Bargara Road brewery and the Bundaberg Barrel tourist attraction, which showcases the business’s 57-year history. Also in attendance were McLean’s wife, Rae-Lee, daughter of company founder Cliff Fleming OAM, and their daughter Bronte.

McLean said the new range aims to expand the company’s customer base while maintaining its commitment to traditional brewing methods.

“Countless people have grown up enjoying our iconic brews such as Bundaberg Ginger Beer, and our latest range will provide them with a delicious treat that is light on sugar and full-on flavour,” he said.

The ‘Refreshingly Light’ range will be available in four x 250ml slimline cans with dual-colour packaging representing each flavour’s unique fruit pairing. Bundaberg Brewed Drinks expects strong sales in its key markets, with McLean noting that the brand is already popular in one in four Australian households and one in three in New Zealand.
