Coles has closed its Coles Express service station on Toolooa Street in Gladstone, Queensland. A Coles spokesperson confirmed to C&I Week it was looking for a replacement site, however, did not state as to why it decided to close the store.
The site is understood to be owned by Haljelar Pty Ltd. According to The Gladstone Observer, the landlord of the site is planning to open a new service station before Christmas.
“The Coles Express site on Toolooa Street in Gladstone has come to the end of its lease and we have made the decision not to renew it. We are working on a replacement site to ensure we are still able to service the local Gladstone community,” a Coles spokesperson said.
There are more than 650 Coles Express stores located around Australia. Coles’ convenience channel was one of the highlights in its first quarter 2016 sales results for the three months to 27 September 2015. Convenience store sales grew strongly by 12.9 per cent for the quarter while comparable store sales were up 9.1 per cent.
