Coles Group has announced an acceleration in its climate targets with a goal to deliver net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
The Group’s Climate Change Position Statement sets emissions targets under a new ‘Together to Zero’ ambition.
Further to its goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, the entire Coles Group will aim to be powered by 100 per cent renewable electricity by the end of FY2025.
It also aims to reduce combined Scope One and Two greenhouse gas emissions by more than 75 per cent by the end of FY30 (from a FY20 baseline).
Coles Group CEO Steven Cain said that since 2009 there has already been a 36.5 per cent reduction in Scope One and Two greenhouse gas emissions and that Coles has been “a leader in securing renewable energy”.
“Our new targets for Scope One and Two emissions commit us to an accelerated reduction in greenhouse gas emissions that exceed the climate change ambitions of the Paris Agreement and will help sustain Australia for generations to come by working together with our customers and suppliers and members of the community.”
