HS Fresh Foods sold to rival fresh food company

HS Fresh Foods has been sold by administrators to PM Fresh Foods, following its voluntary administration earlier this year.

The businesses that make up HS Fresh Food are HS Fresh Food Pty Ltd, HS Fresh Food Holding Pty Ltd, HS Fresh Farms Pty Ltd, and HS Salads Pty Ltd, with several brands under its banner, including Houston’s Farm, Sunfresh, and Gourmet Selections.

Starting as Houston’s Farm in Tasmania, HS Fresh Food has a national footprint with operations in Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Western Australia, and NSW, and is a leading player in the food industry with one of the broadest sets of growing and processing capabilities in the fresh food sector.

Joanne Dunn, Vaughan Strawbridge, and Ben Campbell of FTI Consulting, who were appointed administrators, announced the sale to PM Fresh Foods, with the completion of the sale expected to occur by July 31, 2024.

“The sale process resulted in a number of expressions of interest and non-binding indicative offers being received, but the PM Fresh offer was the best offer received.

“Employees were advised of the sale in meetings that were held on Tuesday 9 July 2024, however, the final number of employees being offered future employment under the sale has yet to be communicated, as this will not be known until transition plans are finalised which are expected to be done over the next three weeks,” said the administrators in a statement.

The vertically integrated, multi-branded, and Australian-owned food producing and processing business specialises in fresh salads, bagged salad leaves, deli products, ready-made meals, and pre-prepared vegetables, which it supplies to a range of major supermarkets, including Drakes, IGA, Romeo’s, Foodland, Woolworths, and Coles.
