Saints Road Foodland has been named IGA International Retailer of the Year at a recent awards ceremony held in Las Vegas.
The independent South Australian retailer, which opened in 2019, beat thousands of stores worldwide to be awarded the honour at the Independent Grocers Alliance Awards of Excellence on 11 March.
Director Spero Tsapaliaris and Executive Manager Philip Funnell accepted the award on behalf of Saint Road Foodland.
Upon accepting the accolade and showing appreciation to various people, Funnell said, most importantly, he would like to thank the whole team at the Saints Foodland store.
“They’re the ones that do the hard yards, day in, day out, to execute and deliver what we dream about and ultimately delivering that for our customers, who will be the ultimate judge of our success.”
Franklin dos Santos, CEO, Foodland Supermarkets, said they are incredibly proud of the Saints Foodland store, which has reached the pinnacle of the retail industry and once again puts Foodland IGA on the global stage.
“To be recognised among more than 6000 independent retailers from around the world truly reflects the ongoing passion and commitment from the Chapley Group to exceed customer and supplier expectations time and time again.”
In 2023, the north-Adelaide supermarket was awarded the annual IGA National Retailer of the Year, giving it the chance to represent Australia at the international awards.
The awards were judged by mystery shoppers which evaluated stores based on ambience, offering, sustainability, and customer service.
Saints Road Foodland features an expansive curated cheese bar, internal café and bakery, onsite butcher, a charcuterie/smallgoods selection, and seafood offering.
According to dos Santos, Saints Road Foodland aims to continue its mission to deliver South Australians with an elevated, premium shopping experience.
