Grocery delivery platform Milkrun, which is now owned by Woolworths, has launched its service in New Zealand.
The company, which shut down before being bought by Woolworths earlier this year, will be offering New Zealanders the chance to order over 10,000 grocery items through its app.
Mark Wolfenden, Director of Digital and Loyalty for Woolworths Group New Zealand, said Milkrun’s launch is a fantastic milestone as they continue to focus on delivering innovation that New Zealanders are looking for.
“Milkrun has proved incredibly popular for Woolworths customers in Australia, and we’re excited to share the ultra-convenient experience with our New Zealand shoppers.”
Woolworths announced last week that it was accelerating its transition of rebranding its supermarkets from Countdown to Woolworths. The company stated that commencing Milkrun is a key part of offering more convenience shopping solutions to customers and that more are to come.
In Australia, Woolworths rebranded its Metro60 offering as Milkrun now powered by Metro. The back-end operations of Metro60 remain unchanged in terms of orders being fulfilled from Metro stores and being delivered by Uber.
Brad Banducci, CEO of Woolworths Group, said Woolworths has long admired Milkrun’s innovative brand, dedication to customers, and ambition to shake up the grocery delivery model.
“We are thrilled that the Milkrun story will continue to live on and thrive with Metro60 relaunching as Milkrun now powered by Metro.
“Orders will be fulfilled from our network of Metro stores which will give customers the choice of over 10,000 product lines including hot roast chickens, fresh sushi and much more.”
Milkrun is now available in the Wellington region and selected parts of central Auckland, with coverage expected to grow significantly in the coming months. Orders will be fulfilled from local Countdown stores.
