Qantas Frequent Flyer has expanded its partnership with bp, allowing customers to use Qantas Points at participating bp service stations.
In a program first, members can now use Qantas Points at the point of purchase in-store on fuel and eligible purchases over $10 (or 1,900 Qantas Points), using new Reward Code technology. For example, a Qantas Frequent Flyer member can now fill up a $50 tank of fuel and pay for it using 9,500 Qantas Points.
New Reward Code technology has been developed specifically to facilitate in-store purchases using Qantas Points and is being piloted at bp service stations.
The Reward Code technology will allow members to use their Qantas Points securely by scanning their digital Frequent Flyer Card, with plans to roll out this new style of Qantas Point redemption for everyday purchases across other areas of the program in the future.
Olivia Wirth, Qantas Loyalty CEO, said the partnership with bp has very quickly become one of the top three on the ground point earning activities for Frequent Flyer members.
Billions of Qantas Points have been earned through the partnership over the last two years, with frequent flyers earning Qantas Points at bp every four seconds.
“We know frequent flyers are always looking for new ways to earn and use points. With so many members already earning points at bp, we anticipate that providing greater flexibility in how they can use their points will be welcomed.
“We’re excited to deepen our partnership with bp, integrating this new Reward Code technology, which will revolutionise the way members will be able to use their Qantas Points. It will deliver a seamless experience for using points on every day in-store purchases.”
When using Qantas Points for fuel or in-store purchases, members will also earn Qantas Points at the same rate as when paying with cash.
Members will continue to earn up to two Qantas Points per litre of fuel, and one Qantas Point per $1 spent on eligible in-store purchases, when they choose to earn Qantas Points in their BP Rewards account.
This new way to use Qantas Points builds on the additional options added to the program over the last 12 months, providing more choice for members in how they wish to use their Qantas Points. These include the increased availability of Classic Flight Reward seats, carbon offsets to achieve Green Tier status and Points Auctions.
