We take a sneak peek at Brett Higgins’ presentation at the 2024 C&I Industry Symposium, which will look at the benefits of QSRs for retailers.
Higgins is currently Managing Director of Boxx Brands, which owns Jesters, with stores in both Australia and New Zealand, Croissant Express, and most recently Cinnabon, opening their first WA location in August of 2024.
Higgins’ success in QSR began as one of the original Subway franchisees in Australia in the mid-1990s, then becoming a Development Agent for Subway in Western Australia in 2002, expanding the brand from 50 to 168 locations, tripling the sales, and having the highest average turnover territory for Subway in the world.
“The synergies between QSR and convenience are more similar right now than what they’ve ever been in terms of having the same customer. QSRs are looking for growth, specifically in the convenience channel.
“From when I got into QSRs in the mid-1990s to now, both convenience and QSRs have changed so much, and I’ll be looking at the benefits of convenience and QSRs working together rather than competing against each other.”
Higgins’ experience in QSR over a long period of time gives him a unique perspective on how the industry has grown and will continue to grow.
“Our demographics are very similar, and I’ll share some insights into how we can merge the two worlds together to maximise the reach of the market for both QSR and convenience and look at the reasons why a retailer could consider having a QSR in their space.”
