An innovative range of warm salads is helping to extend healthy salad-based on-the-go meals into the winter months and is a great fit for convenience stores looking to provide a fresh and nutritious meal option.
Sunfresh Salads’ ‘Down to Earth’ warm salad range was awarded the Foodland SA New Product Award at the 2016 SA Food Industry Awards, held at the Adelaide Convention Centre on Friday, November 25.
According to Sunfresh Salads’ Head of Sales and Marketing Domenico Eliseo, the Down to Earth warm salad was developed to fill the gap in the market for nutritious, well-balanced heat-and-eat options during the cooler months. As a warm salad option, this range is ideal for providing a filling and nutritious alternative to the standard ready-meal fare.
“Despite being developed as a winter range, the warm salads have proved so popular that stores are continuing to range through summer. These salads are gaining momentum month on month. While spring and summer are traditionally a high period for salads, our experience is that consumer tastes are changing and they are looking for healthier ready-to-eat options throughout the entire year.
“The market is evolving and consumers are seeking on trend ingredients such as chia, quinoa, pulses etc. We have listened to the retailers and to the consumers with a focus on healthy eating. These hand-crafted layered salads are available in a variety of flavours all with a four-star health rating and superfood ingredients.
Perfect salads for convenience environment
“Currently we have product in selected On the Run convenience stores here in Adelaide, as well as at other leading retail stores throughout South Australia and Victoria. Our salads have an eight to 10-day shelf life and are sealed in tamper proof packaging so consumers can purchase them with utmost confidence. They are shelf friendly and have high aesthetic appeal with the salad itself being the star.
“As a family-owned business located in South Australia’s Mawson Lakes, we try to purchase as much of our produce as possible from local growers. We are very keen to work with our retailers and accommodate the needs of our customers. In the end, it is the consumer who inspires us to innovate; our aim is to deliver product that has high visual appeal and is fresh, tasty and nutritious,” Mr Eliseo said.
