The NSW Government has issued stay-at-home orders for people who live or work in Woollahra, Waverley, Randwick and City of Sydney Council areas, which come into effect from 11.59pm today.
The lockdown of those LGAs has come at the current COVID-19 outbreak grows in Greater Sydney and the NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said she expects businesses in those four LGAs to close, except when they offer deliveries.
“The health orders in those four local government areas unfortunately mean that unless you are providing essential food and services, that means takeaway food and services, we don’t expect those businesses to remain open in the next week.
“Now, I appreciate this is a blow for businesses in those communities but we have been able to limit it to those four local government areas, and that is our intention. This is to make sure, as Dr Chant often says, rumbling cases of transmission going on for weeks and weeks.
“Our aim is to be proportionate, to limit the stay-at-home orders to people who live and work in those four local government areas and it will have an impact on businesses.”
Due to the risk associated with an increasing number of exposure venues where transmission has occurred, from 11.59pm tonight until at least 11.59pm on Friday 2 July, residents of the four LGAs must stay at home unless it is for an essential reason.
The reasons you may leave your home include:
- Shopping for food or other essential goods and services;
- Medical care or compassionate needs;
- Exercise outdoors in groups of 10 or fewer;
- Essential work, or education, where you cannot work or study from home.
The Government said: “We understand this is a difficult time for everyone, however we need to take these steps now to get on top of this outbreak.”
People should only enter the four LGAs for essential purposes.
The restrictions around face masks remain in place as well as the requirement that if you live or work in the City of Sydney, Waverley, Randwick, Canada Bay, Inner West, Bayside, and Woollahra local government areas, you cannot travel outside metropolitan Sydney for non-essential reasons.
Residents across Greater Sydney have also been asked to limit unnecessary activity and avoid large gatherings in coming days and comply with the current restrictions.
