Viva Energy, the Shell licensee in Australia, has announced the renewal of its long-standing partnership with Supercars team Dick Johnson Racing (DJR).
The multi-year deal will see Shell V-Power remain the Major and Naming Rights Partner of DJR, continuing one of Australia’s longest-standing sporting partnerships, which has spanned 57 years.
Dick Johnson, motorsport legend and co-owner of the Shell V-Power Racing Team, expressed his excitement about the renewed partnership.
“It’s really, really pleasing to see that we’ve got another extension of our contract, which we’ve had for many, many years with Shell. We’ve been with them for 55-odd years, and I believe our partnership is one of the longest-standing relationships in Australian sport.”
The partnership began in 1967, when the Shell brand first appeared on Dick Johnson’s racing car. Since then, the collaboration has seen numerous milestones, including full naming rights between 1987 and 2004, and its return in 2017 under the Shell V-Power Racing Team moniker. Over the last eight years, the team has secured three Drivers’ Championships, three Teams’ Championships, and a Bathurst 1000 victory.
David Noble, CEO of the Shell V-Power Racing Team, also emphasized the significance of the partnership.
“With a remarkable 57-year history together, both brands have consistently demonstrated a commitment to high performance and excellence. We’re excited to continue building on this legacy as we drive towards new achievements.”
Andrew Egan, General Manager of Marketing at Viva Energy Australia, highlighted the mutual benefits of the partnership.
“Our collaboration delivers strong commercial outcomes for both the racing team and our business with the association of our Shell V-Power premium fuel brand.”
As the partnership enters its next chapter, both Shell V-Power and Dick Johnson Racing are set to continue fuelling success on and off the track, further cementing their legacy in Australian motorsport.
