Woolworths has added a “world first” technology to its Scan&Go stores, which shows the exact price of loose fruit and vegetables, as well as the weight of the items.
The technology, which is in partnership with Tiliter, will first be available for customers at Woolworths Crows Nest and Double Bay, along with Metro Park Sydney and Norwest.
Woolworths has already been using AI scales throughout the fresh produce department since the middle of 2022. This technology already offers customers a quick, convenient, and accurate reading of the weight of loose fruit and vegetables.
These new scales replaced the existing analogue scales to provide a modern, digital alternative for customers, with more than 300 Woolworths stores currently having the scales in-store.
Local retail technology company Tiliter, whose product recognition solutions can be found in supermarkets across Australia, New Zealand, and Europe, developed the new AI scales.
Woolworths first formed a partnership with Tiliter during the roll-out of its Scan&Go program in 2020.
Woolworths’ Head of Business Solutions – Customer, Retail and Emerging Concepts, Sailesh Shankar, said the new technology will help shoppers with managing their budgets.
“As we continue our rollout of digital scales throughout the fresh produce area of some stores, we’re ready to take the next step.
“We understand customers are looking to work within their budgets and hoping this solution can make it easier for them to do so.
“We’ll continue to listen closely to customer and team member feedback on the entire project over the coming months.”
Tiliter CEO, Marcel Herz, said the nationwide partnership with Woolworths will provide a more convenient shopping experience for customers.
“Our innovative technology is bringing the future of retail into the present for everyone. Australian shoppers now have the opportunity to track their spend across fresh produce while they shop, making it easier for them to cross-reference the price with their budget.”
